Propyard, Bristol (UK)

Following a recent redevelopment, Propyard in Bristol turned to Atomic Pro technology to light its vast and highly distinctive spaces, now home to a series of exclusive events. Located just a 10-minute walk from Temple Meads railway station, on the banks of the River Avon, this former torpedo testing site has been transformed into a venue for exclusive music and arts events.

Lighting a venue like Propyard presents a specific challenge: creating atmosphere and intimacy within vast, industrial-scale spaces. The venue's two main hangars, the Main Studio and the Crane Room, take their name from the original industrial cranes still housed beneath their soaring ceilings.

Propyard spans more than 7.5 square kilometers and can host between 150 and 3,000 people, current restrictions permitting.

Fixture Selection

To meet these challenges, the project called for 400 Atomic Pro FLZ-20 Zoom fixtures and 200 Atomic Pro Fenice 50 Profile ellipsoidal spotlights.

The FLZ-20 Zoom was selected for its warm, inviting 3200K light output, adjustable beam angle via zoom control, and straightforward installation thanks to full compatibility with Global track systems, making it an ideal fit for Propyard's dining and lounge areas.

The Fenice 50 Profile proved to be the right choice for exhibition spaces, thanks to its precise color rendering, clean beam profiling, and compact form factor with minimal visual impact. The Track version was also selected here, with a 15° to 30° zoom range that simplified installation for the team, ensuring optimal lighting on each piece regardless of mounting position or artwork size.
